A moist date sponge drenched in hot toffee sauce and served with custard or ice cream.

Method
- Boil the dates in 250 ml water, add baking soda and mash.
- Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs, then fold in flour and dates.
- Bake at 180°C for 30 minutes.
- Heat the sauce ingredients until melted and bubbling.
- Pour over the hot sponge and serve.
